Kartagener Syndrome and Cytoskeletal Elements-Microtubules, Cilia
Microtubules:
- Microtubules=Tubes=Transport intracellular (most important in axons)
- Transport requires ATPase=Dynein+Kinesin
- Dynein= Retrogade, Kinesin=Anterograde
Microtubules=Mitotic
Spindle (during Mitosis and Meiosis)
Cilia
2 central + 18 peripheral
microtubules+ DYNEIN= Cilia
Cilia = Movement
- 1. Respiratory tract = to move mucus, as pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium
- 2. Sperm = form the core of flagella,which is motile part of sperm
Kartagener Syndrome
- Respiratory tract= Chronic respiratory infection=Bronchiectasis
- Sperm=immotile spertazoa=infertility
why?
due to absence of Dynein,
so that absence of functioning cilia.
